Linda Frey becomes first Liechtensteiner in NXT Gen Cup
The roster of highly competitive female drivers is growing by the numbers in NXT Gen Cup. The latest addition to the 2025 lineup is Linda Frey, who will make her electric car racing debut at the season premiere in April.
The 17-year-old Liechtensteiner began her driving career in sim racing, achieving strong results in the junior category of the Porsche eSports Carrera Cup Suisse—the official Swiss sim racing championship.
Despite her young age, Frey’s journey from virtual racing to real-world race tracks has been remarkably swift. Her car racing debut came in April 2024 in the Renault Twingo Cup at Balaton Park Circuit in Hungary. Having proven that her speed translates to real-world competition, Frey is now ready to take on the NXT Gen Cup, racing on some of Europe’s most iconic circuits.
As a participant in the Pergolini academy AG's driver development program in Liechtenstein, Frey has been refining her racecraft ahead of the 2025 season. With NXT Gen Cup’s emphasis on sustainability and innovation, she sees this as an ideal opportunity to further her career.
“I am really proud to be part of this fully electric and sustainable junior series. NXT Gen Cup gives me the opportunity to take the next step in my motorsport career,” said Linda Frey.
For NXT Gen Cup founder Fredrik Lestrup, Frey’s impressive progression in 2024 did not go unnoticed.
“Linda proved in 2024 that her talent and determination have helped her transition from sim racing to real-world competition. I believe her experience from the Twingo Cup will serve her well as she moves up to the significantly more powerful NXT Gen Cup cars. I have great confidence that this will be a strong match for both her and us,” said Lestrup.
NXT Gen Cup, the world’s first electric junior touring car series, will once again race alongside DTM—Europe’s premier and best-known racing series—over four race weekends from April to August.
